ألفية "ابن مالك" هي منظومة تعليمية للنحو والصرف وضعت من ألف بيت، وقد حظيت باهتمام وعناية العلماء ما لم يحظ به كتاب، فقد أحصى بروكلمان في تاريخ الأدب العربي تسعاً وأربعين كتاباً شرحت فيه الألفية، ولعل أقدم هذه الشروح هو شرح ابن الناظم الذي يعدّ من أدلّ شروطها. ويبدو أنه كان كالمنهل العذب لكل من تصدى لشرح الألفية من بعده، فقد كان شراح الألفية ينقلون عن شرحه ونظراً لأهميتها، فقد اعتنى بها الكثيرون، وقد جاءت محققة في هذا الكتاب، وكان عمل المحقق فيها على النحو التالي: ضبط الآيات المستشهد بها، مع ضبط أبياتها وشواهدها الشعرية وكلماتها، ضبط تستقيم من خلاله قراءة هذا الشرح وفق ما تقتضيه اللغة، كما أراد المؤلف. ترقيم أبيات الشواهد الشعرية التي استشهد بها ابن الناظم، تخريج الآيات القرآنية مع تخريج وجه القراءة من مظانها إذ ذكر ذلك عند المؤلف. تخريج الأحاديث النبوية وتخريج الأمثال من مظانها المتداولة، تخريج شواهد الشعر والرجز مع نسبتها إلى أصحابها إذا كان لها قائل، العناية بشرح غريب المفردات الواردة في أمثلة ابن الناظم الشعرية والنثرية، تذييل الكتاب بملحق تضمن الفهارس، الفنية التي تخدم الكتاب وتسهّل للقارئ العودة إلى مبتغاه في هذا الشرح.
