دكتور مازن المبارك ولد في دمشق عام 1930م. من أسرة علمية، هاجر جده الشيخ محمد الطيب المبارك من الجزائر مع الأمير عبد القادر الجزائري وسكن دمشق، أبوه العالم اللغوي الكبير الشيخ عبد القادر المبارك عضو مؤسس في المجمع العلمي العربي أي مجمع اللغة العربية .حصل من جامعة دمشق على إجازة في الآداب، وأهلية التعليم الثانوي، ومن جامعة القاهرة على الماجستير والدكتوراة في الآداب، ودرّس في جامعة دمشق وجامعة الرياض والجامعة اللبنانية.
عمله:
- رئيساً لقسم اللغة العربية في كلية الدراسات الإسلامية والعربية بجامعة دبي
- رئيساَ لقسم اللغة العربية في جامعة قطر.
- عضو جمعية البحوث والدراسات.
- عضواً عاملاً في مجمع اللغة العربية بدمشق عام 2002.
- والآن في دمشق يعمل مدرسا في معهد الشام العالي.

هذه نصوص مختارة من كتاب (الخصائص) لأبي الفتح عثمان بن جني، ومن كتاب (المزهر في علوم اللغة) لجلال الدين عبد الرحمن بن أبي بكر السيوطي، وهما الكتابان المشهوران في فقه اللغة، اشتهر أولهما بعمقه وحسن بيانه، واشتهر الثاني منهما باستيعابه وحسن تبويبه، ولأهميتهما ولتسهيل الإطلاع عليهما من قبل الباحثين والدارسين والطلاب جمع منهما في هذا الكتاب نصوص مختارة، وإتماماً للفائدة تقدمت النصوص لمحة موجزة تعرف بصاحب الكتاب الذي اقتبست منه النصوص، كما تعرف بالكتاب نفسه، كما وتم شرح ما استغلت من ألفاظ النص، والتعليق على بعض ما ورد فيه من الشواهد والأفكار، والغاية من هذا العمل أن يكون طلاب العربية على الصلة بمصادر لغتهم، وأن يتمرسوا بأساليب القدماء في معالجتهم للبحوث اللغوية.
