عندما بدأ علم النفس الخوارق اتجه فكر القائمين عليه نحو معرفة الحقيقة ووضع حد للخرافة والأوهام. وأصبح أول طموح الباحثين هو أن يدخل علم نفس الخوارق كفرع من فروع علم النفس الرسمي بغير المادة.

يقول أحد الباحثين في خوارق الإحساس: "لو توافرت لنا نصف إمكانية تجارب وأدوات الفيزيائيين في مختبراتهم لتمكنا من تقديم خدمات هائلة للبشرية والمدنية معاً".
