دأبت الإيويولوجية السائدة في الغرب على نقد ووصف النظام الشيوعي الذي كان سائداً في روسيا ودول أوربا الشرقية بالنظام التوتاليتاري. وقد كان لمفهوم التوتاليتارية, الذي يعرف بالشمولية, دور كبير في إسقاط التجربة التاريخية الشيوعية. ومن أهم خصائص هذه التوتاليتارية, تميزها بعدد من الثوابت والعلامات الفارقة: الحزب الشمولي الواحد, الدور المركزي للايديولوجيا, إلغاء الحدود الفاصلة بين الدولة و المجتمع, تقديم دولة السلطة على سلطة الدولة, تضخم أجهزة القمع والإرهاب وافتراسها المجتمع, نفي مشروعية الصراعات الداخلية وتقديس مبدأ الانصهارية. أهم محتويات الكتاب: العولمة الرأسمالية المتوحشة, الليبرالية الجديدة وحقائق العولمة, العولمة السيئة وراديكالية المناهضين لها, عودة الصراع بين الشمال والجنوب في ظل العولمة, أزمة الاشتراكية الديمقراطية وعولمة الطريق الثالث, الإمبراطورية الأمريكية وتحريض على الإرهاب, الحرب الأمريكية الجديدة في آسيا الوسطى, هل يستمر تماسك التحالف الدولي ضد الإرهاب؟, من المسؤول عن العداء المتجذر لأمريكا, القضية الفلسطينية وتداعيات 11 سبتمبر, الإنتفاضة الفلسطينية وإستيراتيجية الحرب الصهيونية, رؤية نقدية لمقولة الدولة الفلسطينية,القضية الفلسطينية في مواجهة خطر التصفية, الحرب الإستباقية على العراق, إخفاق إستيراتيجية الإحتواء العسكري, أمريكا من الردع إلى الحرب الإستباقية.
