أهمية هذا الكتاب النقدي الجديد الذي نضعه بيد القارئ للشاعر الناقد (فائز العراقي) وهو يجمع بين المنهج النظري والمنهج التطبيقي.
فعلى المستوى النظري، يتطرق الناقد إلى دراسة أهم الإشكاليات التي عرفتها "الحداثة الشعرية"، وتحديداً فيما يتعلق بالقصيدة الحرة "قصيدة النثر"، وهي: "إشكالية الإيقاع"، إشكالية خصائص قصيدة النثر وسماتها الفنية، إشكالية المصطلح، وإشكالية الريادة".
وفي كتابه هذا يضيف الناقد آراء جديدة حيث يتصدى لهذه الإشكاليات وأسماء حواره وتناوله للطروحات النظرية لمشاهير النقاد والباحثين الشعراء العرب، ومنهم: أدونيس، أنسي الحاج، عبد الكريم الناعم، سركون بولص، فاضل العزاوي، يمنى العيد، عبد الله الغذامي، محمد عزام، نعيم اليافي، محمد جمال باروت، جبرا إبراهيم جبرا، كمال خير بك، وغيرهم.
أما على المستوى النظرية، فالدراسة تتناول التجربة الشعرية لواحد من أهم رواد الحداثة الشعرية العربية: محمد الماغوط، ولقد درس الماغوط (نفسياً واجتماعيا) أي المناهج خارج-نصية غالباً، إلا أن الجديد في هذا الكتاب هو دراسة الماغوط ضمن المنهج النقدي السيميولوجي.
وأخيراً، نترك للمتلقي والناقد فرصة تكوين رأيه الذي سيحدد من خلال عملية التلقي بوصفه منتجاً جديداً للنص.
