اللجوء هو صفة قانونية قوامها حماية تُمنح لشخص غادر وطنه خوفاً من الإضطهاد أو التنكيل أو القتل، بسبب مواقفه أو آرائه السياسية أو جنسه أو دينه، كما قد يُفرض اللجوء على الناس فرضاً نتيجة حرب أهلية ماحقة، أو غزو عسكري أجنبي، أو كارثة طبيعية أو بيئية.
وحق اللجوء تقليد قديم؛ أرجع الباحثون أصوله البعيدة إلى العهد الإغريقي عندما كانت الدولة تمنحه لمرتكبي جرائم معينة، وفي العصر الروماني اعترفت السلطات بشكل محدود للغاية بهذا الحق، كما شهد مفهوم اللجوء شيوعاً خلال القرون الأولى من التاريخ المسيحي، وخاصة القرن الرابع الميلادي.
هذا المفهوم توسع في شرحه وإيضاحه مؤلّف هذا الكرّاس سماحة آية الله الشيخ محمد صادق محمد الكرباسي، عرض أحكام اللجوء في الإسلام التي أودعها سماحته في ٥٧ مسألة.
