يحمل هذا الكتاب بعضاً من رسائل الأمير. وليس كل الرسائل التي كتبها، والتي تعد بالألوف تبادلها مع كبار رجال العصر ومفكريه. في مواضيع شتى تناولت السياسة واللغة والعلم والأدب وخصوصاً القضايا الوطنية والعربية والإسلامية. وكانت له علاقة وطيدة مع بعض الملوك والرؤساء في ذلك الزمان. ومع القادة والزعماء وأولي الشأن في أوروبا والبلدان العربية. لأن في جميعها كانت تعصف الدسائس وتحاك المؤامرات، وكان للأمير يد فاعلة ونشاط مبذول للحد من ذلك، وكثيراً ما توسل بالرسائل تنوب عنه في مساعيه الوطنية الخيرة. ورسائل الأمير بعد وفاته، تناثرت في كل مكان، ولم يكن جمعها بالأمر اليسير. وللرسائل قيمة أدبية واجتماعية وتاريخية وسياسية مهمة، وقد تناولت فترة معينة من الزمن امتدت من أوائل هذا القرن وانتهت بوفاته سنة 1946.
