كان الشيخ أمين تقي الدين، شاعراً فذاً، ومحامياً ذكياً، وأديباً مرموقاً، وصحافياً نشيطاً. أطرب القلوب بشعره فاهتزت له المشاعر. كان من الرعيل الأول بين الشعراء في ميله إلى التجديد موضوعاً وأسلوباً. له قصائد عصماء حلّق فيها وأجاد، وعدّت من عيون الشعر لما فيها من صياغة بارعة، وألفاظ جزلة، واسلوب رائق، متين القوافي، سالم من العيوب، لا ابتذال فيه ولا تكلف، تتجلى البساطة والعفوية في أبياته.
نظم أمين تقي الدين في أغراض كثيرة، في الوطنيات، في الرثاء، في الوجدانيات في الاجتماعيات، في الإخوانيات. قال الشعر إرضاءً لنزوات في النفس، فكان الشاعر المحلق مع ذاته، صدقه مع الناس.
هذا الكتاب يضمّ بين طياته منتخبات من قصائد أمين تقي الدين نظمها بدءاً من أوائل نظمه في سنة 1898 حتى تاريخ وفاته سنة 1937، كما ويحتوي على منتخبات نثرية دونها الشاعر، وعلى منتخبات مما قيل فيه قبل وفاته وبعدها. والهدف من هذا الكتاب هو إلقاء الضوء على شطحات هذا الشاعر الكبير، وإخراجها من حيّز النسيان.
