لقد خلق الله سبحانه وتعالى عباده من أجل البقاء والحساب لا لأجل الفناء والذهاب بلا رجوع ولا معاد. حيث البقاء في الآخرة إما في نعيم مقيم، أو عذاب أليم، يختبرنا ربنا ليرى أينا أحسن عملاً ممن أساء عملاً. فمن أحسن فلنفسه ومن أساء فلنفسه أيضاً. وإن من الأحاديث التي ترغبك إلى الدار الآخرة وتبشرك بها وتحذرك من عواقبها ما جمعه السيوطي في كتابه الأم في هذا الموضوع: شرح الصدور في شرح حال الموتى والقبور. ثم اقتضبه في رسالة صغيرة نافعة سماها: بشرى الكئيب بلقاء الحبيب. وهي بحق زبدة كتابه ذاك. حيث جمع فيها بين الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية وأقوال السلف الصالح.
