قال "السيوطى" : ( رزقت التبحر فى سبعة علوم: التفسير والحديث و الفقه والنحو والمعانى والبيان والبديع على طريقة العرب والبلغاء لا على طريقة العجم وأهل الفلسفة)، وهو نجده مؤكداً بمؤلفاته التى صنفها فى علم البلاغة ولم تكن آراءاً متناثرة فى كتبه ومؤلفاته العديدة، وهو على هذا لم ينظر بعد له بعين الاهتمام فى هذا المجال حيث طغت النظرة إليه كقمة وعلم فى الحديث والنحو على وجه الخصوص، مما يشير ويؤكد ببحره السابق فى علم البلاغة هذا الكتاب" شرح عقود الجمان فى علم المعانى والبيان" والذى تناول فيه علم المعانى فى ثلاثة أبواب فى أحوال واحوال متعلقات الفعل والقصر والإنشاء و الوصل والفصل والمساواة والاطناب والايجاز، كذلك تناول علم البيان وفيه التشبيه وأدواته والغرض منه وأقسامه والمجاز والاستعارة والكتابة، وأخيراً الفن الثالث وهو علم البديع بقسمه الأول المعنوى والثانى اللفظى. جدير بالذكر أن الكتاب الذى بين يدينا لم يقتصر على كتاب (شرح عقود الجمان) للسيوطى فقط، وإنما أرفق معه وفى هامشه كتاب "حلية اللب المصون على الجوهر المكنون" للشيخ أحمد الدمنهورى.
