نامت (آرجي) ملتصقة بي، رأسها ملفوفة بذراعي ومندسّة في الوسادة فوق كتفي على نحو قد يجعل تنفسها عسيراً، سحبت الغطاء على كتفيها، هكذا تنام الفتيات مع الرجل الأول دون تجربة.
هذه عادة نوم العشاق الصغار، فكرت مسترجعاً بشيء من الضيق أيام شبابي الأولى، تأمّلت وجهها في ضوء الفجر: كم هو فاضح! كم هي فاضحة وجوه نوَّم الفجر! حينئذٍ تكون السرائر مسترخية ودرجة طراوة وجه النائم تدل على أحلامه.
للوجوه الطرية أحلامها الجميلة، على العكس من الوجوه التي تبدو عنيفة في أوقات الفجر، أحلامها تنعكس حتى على حالة الجفنين المطبقين، فتبدو الحدقتان في أسفل المحجرين أشبه بوجوه الثملين في الليلة الفائتة.
كان وجه (آرجي) النائم جميلاً معبّراً وسعيداً، لأول مرة أراه هكذا، دون طلاءٍ لشفتيها، وكان الوردي لونهما الهادئ، جفناها هادئان، مرسومان بلا تجاعيد، منفّرة.
وفي محيط أنفها وعينيها نقاء نادر، كما يليق بنوم عميق سارح، تأملت وجهها وشعرت أني أحبها.
