يحيط هذا الكتاب بمفاهيم ما بعد الحداثة، حيث تم توصيف التحولات النموذجية المختلفة التي أصابت دوائر الثقافة والسياسة والفلسفة واللغة والهوية وحقول التواصل والتفاعل والسوسيولوجيا، حيث وجد مؤلف الكتاب الدكتور محمد بكاي أن الفكر ما بعد الحداثي حمل عبر هذه التخصصات الآنفة الذكر هدفاً متماسك نسبياً يتمثل في اشكلة ونقد التوجهات الفلسفية التي أسلفته ووضعها موضع تساؤل وتجريح وإنتقاد، ومنه يتّسم هذا الفكر بالشك والإختلاف والمقاومة.
وبالتالي، لا يمكننا - يقول المؤلف - أن ننتظر من الفكر ما بعد الحداثي أي نزعة علمية أو موضوعية أو غاية نسقية وإنتظامية، بقدر ما تفاجئ بلا إستقرارية ووعورة جغرافية وتعددياته عبر الثقافة وإنتاجها.
عبر فصول الكتاب يجول المؤلف بين مفكرين وفلاسفة بارزين أمثال دريدا وإريغاراي وأركون وكريستيفا وليغناس، فيشهد نقداً لتأسيس المعنى المطلق أو الحقيقة المطلقة، المشيدة مركزياً، الثابتة والمتأصلة غير القابلة للتغيير والتحويل والإزاحة، والبديل الذي يطرحه أصحاب هذا المذهب في "أن الحقيقة ليست أصلية وليست واحدة وحيدة، بقدر ما هي ديناميكية، متعددة ولا نهائية، مؤجلة وغير قابلة للوصول الحتميّ".
وفي هذا الكتاب أيضاً يتطرق المؤلف إلى مفاهيم (إبتكار الآخر والغيرية) فعالج إشكالاتها السياسية وقضاياها الأخلاقية والجذرية، وفحص أساليبها في الفكر والفن والكتابة، بإعادة قضية الغير إلى المشهد الفكري بشكل حادّ، جاد، وملحّ، فأضحى الآخر الغريب برأي المؤلف "لازمة فكرية في عصر الإختلاف".
ومن جوانب متعددة - في هذا الكتاب - تدور بين تفكيك الثوابت إلى معالجة التداولي ومناقشة البعد التواصلي مروراً برهان الإتيقي وقلق النسوي وسطوة السياسي وسرديات التاريخي، يمضي المؤلف في رصد نصيات مكتظة بصعوبات حادة وقضايا متناقضة غير قابلة للحسم، لترجمة خوالج الذات وتمزقاتها، او إنعكاس وقائعها وتجلياتها، حيث تصور لنا فصول هذا الكتاب وقْعَ النزعة النيتشوية على تيار ما بعد الحداثة، فترسم لنا فكراً متزعزعاً وجغرافيا متناثرة، كأرخبيلات تستعصي على التحديد والتمثيل مقتربة من التيه والإختفاء.
