يَطرح هذا الكتاب رؤيةٌ أمريكيةً جديدة تحاول التعاطي مع واقعٍ محتمل لشرقِ أوسطٍ جديد يُراد له أن بصير أو إنه في طريقه إلى الصيرورة، تتناول هذه الرؤية خلاصة ما توفّر عليه الكاتب من معلومات غزيرة ودقيقة حول ما سمّاه في عنوان الكتاب: (الصراعات الداخلية في الإسلام) ودور هذه الصراعات في تشكيل صورة المستقبل في العالم.
يتصوّر الكاتب أن تجربة العراق الجديدة - إذا نجحت - فإنها سوف تَفرض إنبعاثاً شيعياً يملك خطايا هادئاً ومتوازناً سينأى بعيداً عن الرؤية المتطرّفة والخطاب التكفيري الذي أسّس ويؤسَس له إرهابيون ومتشدّدون يدفعون المسلمين بإسم الإسلام إلى ساحات عنف ودم قلّماً شهد مثلها تأريخ العالم.
نعم، وكما يقول الكاتب: إن الشرق الأوسط سوف لن يكون أكثر إشراقاً من ماضيه إذا استمرت سُحُب الصراع الطائفي ودخانه يخيّمان عليه، وإن الديمقراطية والإنتخابات وتوزيع السلطة والثروة على أساس النسبة العددية للسكان هي الكفيلة بإستقرار المنطقة ووضع تعريف جديد للوطن والوطنية والمواطن والإنسان.
