على الرغم من أن "بوكوحرام" هي الرواية الأولى للكاتب الجزائري ملاوي عثمان، فإنها تبدو مكتوبة بعناية وخبرة سردية تتلاءم وطبيعة الأحداث ونوعيتها والرسالة التي تبعث بها، وهي كما يبدو من العنوان تضيء دور حركة إسلامية متطرفة نشطت في نيجيريا وترفض نظام التدريس الغربي، حيث استعمل الكاتب "بوكو" للوقوف: على نظرة الذين للتعاليم الغربية أو الأجنبية من ناحية، ولبيان كثرة الشيء أو تحسباً لوقوعه من ناحية أخرى.
تقول الرواية ذلك من خلال عدة مسارات سردية، متعاقبة في زمن حدوثها، المسار الأول هو إجتماعي – ديني ويحضر على لسان بطلة الرواية وراويتها "أنا حفيزة بنت جُبير السعداوي، أصولي عراقية من المتصوفين الذين غادروا بلاد الشام واستوطنوا المغرب الكبير. كان ذلك في حدود القرن التاسع للهجرة ...". أما المسار الثاني فهو مسار سياسي وبطله "بلخير العكري" الذي سوف يتزوج فيما بعد من حفيزة الرافضة له لمكره وخبثه، والذي سيتعرض للإعتقال لانتمائه لحركة "بوكوحرام" التي راسلها في نيجيريا وقرر أن يفتح لها مقراً في القرية، حتى بدا في عيون الكل معارضاً شرساً، ولكن لن يمر وقت طويل حتى تكتشف أن جهات أجنبية بدأت تدافع عن بلخير وتقدم له الدعم حتى أصبح مشهورياً أكثر من المشاهير.
وخلاصة القول إن بطل ملاوي عثمان يذكرنا بخفافيش هذا الزمان، حيث تطفو على مسرح الأحداث حركات وتنظيمات تجد من يظهرها إعلامياً ويمولها مادياً فربما أراد الكاتب من "بوكوحرام" مهمازاً يفضح منه المشهد السياسي الراهن الذي لا يختلف كثيراً عن زمن الرواية – القرن التاسع للهجرة – والكاتب بعمله هذا يعبّر عن جرأة واضحة في مقاربة الواقع وإعادة صياغته بواسطة الرواية.
يُذكر، أن رواية "بوكوحرام" جائزة على جائزة أثر للرواية العربية / المركز الأول.
