في كتابه "أوراق عتيقة" من دفاتر حزب البعث" يبدو عبد الستار الدوري وكأنه يصون ذاكرة البعث من النسيان على الرغم مما حلَ بالحزب ورجالاته على مرَ التاريخ السياسي في العراق، من هنا أراد استحضار بعض الوقائع والأحداث من تجربته الخاصة وهو الذي عايش تجارب الحركة الوطنية والقومية في العراق إبَان صعودها ونكوصها وتراجعها وتعقيداتها، فكان لا بدَ من نبش تاريخ حزب البعث على صعوبة هذه المهمة، على الرغم من اعتراف المؤلف "أن هذه المهمة المحترمة لم تكن أبداً من أولويات تفكيري وكتاباتي، وأن كل ما تضمنته أوراقي البالية والقديمة والعتيقة التي تضمنها كتابي هذا، كانت وبالتأكيد بمثابة نفض التراب وليس الغبار عن العديد من صفحات "البعث" التي كادت أن تنطمر وتندثر وتتلاشى تحت ركام النسيان والإهمال والتشويه والتزوير...".
وفي هذا الإطار يورد المؤلف بعضاً من المشاهدات والأحداث الحزبية لرفاقه البعثيين الذين شاركهم تجربتهم النضالية، مع التزامه كما يقول "التسجيل التاريخي لكل مفردات الأقوال والتصريحات والحكايا التي جاءت على لسان رفاقي البعثيين وكما هي دون تحوير أو شطب... وكما جاءت او انطلقت من أفواه أصحابها" وهذا هو جوهر الرسالة التوثيقية الصادقة التي حفلت بها أوراق عبد الستار الدوري العتيقة.
يقسم الكتاب إلى قسمين جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: القسم الأول "بدايات": بصمات الوقائع والأحداث على بدايات الوعي السياسي ويضم: 1- إضرابات عمال السكك، 2- حركة رشيد عالي الكيلاني/ 3- "البعث" يطرق اسماعنا لأول مرة، 11- نكبة فلسطين، 5- وثبة عام 1948، 6- إعتصام وإضراب عن الطعام.
القسم الثاني: "الزمن الجميل": ويضم 1- إنتفاضة تشرين 1952... من الرصيف إلى الشارع، 2- مع الحزب في كلية الآداب، 3- دارنا الجديد... خمسة نجوم، 4- علي صالح السعدي.. زوبعة بلا أمطار، 5- أول تجربة إنتخابية حزبية، 6- في العودة إلى بغداد، 7- في بغداد مجابهة مع قاسم أم مواجهة مع قيادة الحزب؟، 8- الكادحون العرب، 9- محاولة ناظم كزاز الإنقلابية، وأخيراً: ملحق الصور.
