في كتابه هذا، يدرس الدكتور "بشير الفقيه" ظاهرة فكرية هي ظاهرة "إزدواجية الخطاب الفلسفي لدى فلاسفة الإسلام وعلاقة هذه الإزدواجية بالخطاب الفلسفي المعاصر" وهو إختيار يقوم على عدة إعتبارات، منها ما يتعلق بالطريقة التي اعتقد المؤلف أنها أجدى في التعامل مع التراث ومنها ما يتعلق بالطريقة التي ننظر بها إلى علاقة التراث بالحاضر.
وإنطلاقاً من هذا الفهم حاول المؤلف التعبير عن حال ثقافي قائم في ساحة الخطاب الفلسفي المعاصر ثم النظر في هذا النتاج الفلسفي والوعي المنهجي العربي المعاصر وذلك من خلال دراسة بعض المناهج وطرق توظيفها وإستعمالها للمفاهيم في مسألة حيوية هي مسألة التراث ومحاولات تحدده.
وبالإستناد إلى المعطيات التي حصل عليها مؤلف الكتاب قام بتطبيق تلك المعطيات على فكر بعض فلاسفة العرب القدماء والمعاصرين، ودرس بعض الفلاسفة القدماء الذين برز في تراثهم معنى الإزدواج في التراث، مع الإعتناء بدراسة بعض رواد المناهج الفلسفية من الفلاسفة المعاصرين والذين أقدموا على بلورة أسلوب منهجي وكانت لهم الريادة في دراسة الموروث الفلسفي العربي الإسلامي أمثال زكي نجيب محفوظ وحسن حنفي وآخرون من الذين مثلوا الموقع البنائي للنظرية التراثية السلفية والرؤية المنهجية الوصفية لإعادة التأسيس لتجديد التراث...
