وإن فهم مناهج المحدثين ومعرفة طريقتهم في التصنيف والإنتقاء والتبويب ونحو ذلك يساعد طالب العلم في دراسة كتب الحديث وفهمها والتعامل معها، ثم معرفة مدى الجهد الذي بذله علماء هذه الأمة لحفظ السنّة وتمييز صحيحها من سقيمها، ومدى إلتزامهم بالدقة والموضوعية والتحري البالغ، ويترسخ لدى طالب العلم أن سلفنا من المحدثين كان لديهم فكر منهجي في الإنتقاء والتصنيف.
وبدراسة هذه المادة يدرك طالب العلم أن هناك تفاوتاً لدى المحدثين سواء في مداركهم وسعة مروياتهم أم في أساليبهم وإتجاههم في التصنيف أم في إلتزامهم بالصحة ومدى تشددهم في ذلك.
