في كتابه هذا يتتبع القس "حنانا المنير" (1756- 1823) تاريخ الشوف في لبنان وفيه تبتدئ حوادث هذا التاريخ مع أول حاكم لجبل الشوف، الأمير بشير الشهابي الأول، الذي جعل من دير القمر عاصمة لإمارته سنة 1697؛ وتنتهي في سنة 1807، مع آخر المرحلة الأولى من حكم الأمير بشير الشهابي الثاني الكبير. ويتضمن هذا الكتاب، الذي يؤرخ للسياسة اللبنانية خلال أكثر من مئة سنة، بعدة ميزات: أ- تدقيقه في الحوادث والأخبار، ب- إيجازه دونما إقلال أو إخلال، ج- اعتماده، بالإضافة إلى التواريخ المكتوبة، على المعلومات التي استقاها مؤلفه من رواتها ومن شهود العيان، وكان هو نفسه أحد هؤلاء الشهود، د- أسلوبه الإنشائي المتسم بمتانة اللغة، ووضوح العبارات، ورشاقة التراكيب، مما يجعل منه كتاباً يشد القارئ إليه، فيقبل على مطالعته بلذة وشوق.
