يشكل هذا الكتاب مرآة للخطاب الديني العرفان للإمام الخميني، يسير أفكاره وما يقوله عن آداب الصلاة والصيام وسائر العبادات التي يتقرب بها العبد إلى بارئه، يتمظهر هذا أكثر في بياناته وخطاباته اليومية التي يقتطف منها هذا الكتاب قبسات نورانية يضيء بها "مصباح الهداية إلى الخلافة والولاية" العنوان الذي اختاره المؤلف ليقدم كتابه إلى القارئ المسلم.
يقول المؤلف السيد أحمد الفهري في مقدمة الكتاب: "... إن الله تعالى يلقني الحكمة على لسان الواعظين بقدرهم" فالخطابات التي يخاطب بها الإمام عامة الأمة على مستوى أفهامهم وعقولهم - والكلام للمؤلف - لا محالة فهي ملحة من لمحاته الجميلة وأما في هذا الكتاب فقد تجلى جماله العرفاني بكل بهائه وسنائه فليس لكل أحد أن ينال إلى مغزى معارفه كما أنه مع ماله في التواضع الكامل الذي يختص به الأولياء والكاملون وهو منهم بلا شك يصرح في هذا الكتاب بــ "أن ما في هذه الرسالة لا أظن أن سمعت به في غير تلك المقالة".
كما أنه يوصي - أي الخميني - الأصدقاء الروحانيين أن لا يكشفوا هذه الأسرار لغير أهلها ويحذرهم من أن لا يضنون على غير محلها فإن باطن الشريعة من النواميس الإلهية والأسرار الربوية مطلوب سره عن أيدي الأجانب...". ما يعني أن العلم لا يقدره إلا أهله من الأولياء والمشايخ العظام والعارفون الكرام... وهو ما سوف تكشف عنه رسائل الإمام في هذا الكتاب ومنها ما يتعلق بالولاية والبداية والنهاية والخلافة المحمدية والولاية العلوية ومقام النبوة وحقيقة الغيبة وأخبار أخرى من طرق أهل البيت وكتبهم المعتبرة... وسواياتهم وما يتصل بذلك من مسائل دينية ودنيوية...
