الأزهار هي أبدع الخالق، وهي أروع ما منحته الطبيعة من تعابير الجمال. عرفها الإنسان منذ القدم، ففتنته بألوانها الزاهية وأشكالها المتنوعة ورائحتها الزكية الطيبة والعطرة، فكرس لها من عنايته الكثير، وهو كان ولا يزال ينشئ مجاميع للأزهار وينسقها، فيجعلها ذات منظر مبهج، مضيفاً إليها عنصر الحياة الأول، الماء، على شكل أحواض، حيث يعتني بها ويجعل منها صديقاً له، في أماكن خاصة تسمى الحدائق.
فتنسيق الحدائق بوجه الحدائق بوجه عام، هو ترتيب الأزهار والنباتات والأشجار ترتيباً متناسقاً مرضياً للأذواق، مريحاً للنظر والنفس معاً، بحيث أنه المكان الذي نلجأ الإنسان إليه ليتمتع فيه بمباهج الطبيعة، خاصة بعد توسع المدينة انتشار الأبنية وندرة مظاهر الطبيعة، وعدم قدرة الإنسان على التفاعل المباشر معها. والتنسيق فن أولاً وعلم ثانياً، فهو أحد الفنون الجميلة كغيره من الفنون. وتبرز فيه الناحية العلمية، إذ أنه يقوم على أساس وقواعد، فتنسيق الحديقة يحتاج إلى المعرفة بالنباتات والأزهار وخصائصها ومتطلباتها وإلى عمل التنسيق وخدمات الحديقة، إلى جانب الإلمام بتاريخ الحدائق القديمة وطرق التنسيق. وهو يتطلب إلى جانب ذلك كله الخيال الواسع المبني على المعرفة بالطبيعة، بحيث يمكنه الإبداع عند تضخيم الحديقة وتنسيقها، والمعرفة المسبقة لما ستكون عليه بعد نمو نباتاتها، وكذلك تحديد أشكالها وجمالها المتكامل.
من هنا تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته والذي يقدم لكلِّ متذوقٍ لجمال الأزهار في الحدائق، ولكلّ مهتم بتنسيق هذه الأزهار، يقدم الكتاب هندسة وتصميم الحدائق بالإضافة إلى فن تشكيل تجمعات الأزاهير في البساتين. قدم الكتاب في البدء لمحة حول النظم الرئيسية في تصميم الحدائق ولمحة عن تاريخ الحدائق عبر العصور منتقلاً من ثم للحديث عن القواعد العامة لتصميم الحدائق وعن الطرق والمشايات في الحدائق مبيناً بعد ذلك أنواع الحدائق مركزاً على الحدائق ذات التصميم الخاص وعلى الأزهار داخل الحدائق وعلى المسطحات الخضراء متحدثاً بعدها عن أشجار وشجيرات الزينة وعن المتسلقات والأسيجة دون إغفال الحديث عن أثاثات الحدائق التي تحتل أهمية في تنسيق الحدائق لما تعطيه من انطباع بالراحة النفسية عند الجلوس للاستمتاع بالمنظر الرائع للحديقة ذات التنسيق المدروس كما وضحه وشرحه هذا الكتاب.
