كتب "محمد اليحيائي" روايته "حوض الشهوات" بين عامي 2009 ، و 2010، وبين مدينتين هما فرجينيا في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية؛ حيث عاش الكاتب لأكثر من عشر سنوات، ومسقط رأسه "بركاء" في عُمان. لكن موضوع الرواية يذهب عميقاً في التاريخ والتراث الحكائي العُماني عبر انتقالات ومراوحة في الزمن الواقعي والزمن المتخيل.
وهكذا، في مدى رحب متعدد الدلالات، تتحرك شخصيات محمد اليحيائي، لتشكل عنواناً لاغتراب الفرد داخل حدود بلاده وخارجها، وهو يتحسس وجوده وأحلامه "ما هي أحلامنا القديمة، بلاد طيبة ورب غفور؟ هنا بلاد طيبة وهنا رب غفور! أليس هذا المكان الذي أحبنا من أول خطوة ورحب بنا واحتضننا ومنحنا الإحساس بالحق والكرامة هو مكاننا؟ ألا يستحق أن نكون أوفياء له؟ هل لا بد من العودة؟ نعود إلى أين ونعود إلى من؟ هل ستعرفنا البلاد أم تستنكرنا كما أنكرتنا في السابق؟ ...". هي رواية يختلط فيها الجدّ بالهزل، والرصانة بالسخرية، والوقائع بالذكريات، والتحسّر على الماضي بالتطلع إلى المستقبل، تحتاج لقارىء نوعي كي يطل على العالم وعلى نفسه من خلال الصراع الذي تخوضه شخصيات هذا العمل، المتعددة، لكي تحقق وجودها ومعنى هذا الوجود، سواء داخل النص أم خارجه.
