ومن أجل تبيان أوجه الخلاف بين الفلسفة والدين، يتجه الكتاب إلى القول "أن الدين يقوم على التسليم أوله أساس في المعتقد، أما الفلسفة، فهي تتسم بكونها ناقدة نظم الإعتقاد والمعتقد، لأنها تخضع الإعتقاد للفحص الشديد، لأنها تبحث عن تفسيرات ومسوغات منطقية للمعتقد، ولأن أساس الفلسفة هو العقل...".
