فهل التخفيف من ألم الإنسان الجسدي، بالمسكنات، أمر مشروع أخلاقياً؟ وإذا فشلت المسكنات في إيقاف الآلام المبرحة، هل يعد الإجهاز على المتألم، بإعطائه دواءً مميتاً بهدف إراحته من ألمه، أمراً مشروعاً؟ وهل تحقيق رغبة المريض المتألم في أن يموت بكرامة، ولا سيما إذا كان مرضه يؤول به إلى الموت، أمر مشروع؟ وهل دخول المريض حالة الموت الدماغي يجعل أمر إيقاف حياته مشروعاً؟
