زهير بن جناب الكلبي شاعر كان له أثر في تاريخ الجاهلية وشعرها، فهو من اجتمعت على رئاسته قبائل قضاعة، وهي ثلث العرب، وقد عمر زمناً طويلاً أتاح له المشاركة في عدد من الأحداث الجاهلية المشهورة، وهو من أقدم شعراء الجاهلية الذين وصل إلينا شعرهم. وقد أفرد له د.محمد شفيق البيطار هذا الكتاب، حيث قام بإخارج ديوانه مستقلاً عمن عاصروه من شعراء بني كلب، وقدم له بمقدمة عن حياته وعن شعره موثقاً، وذلك لأهمية حياته في تاريخ الجاهلية، ولأهمية شعره في أوليّة الشعر الجاهلي، فهذا الديوان نموذج للشعر الجاهلي القديم بموضوعاته وخصائصه.
