سيجد القارئ في هذا الكتاب أربعة مسرحيات للشيخ "إبراهيم الأحدب"، رجع فيها إلى بعض محطات تاريخ القبائل العربية، نتابع فيها سيرة الأبطال العشاق في التاريخ؛ جاءت عناوين هذه المسرحيات: 1-"عروة بن حزام وابنة عمه عفراء"، وفيها 11 شخصية إلى جانب بعض الجواري وتجري أحداثها في أحياء عذرة، 2-"مجنون بني عامر مع محبوبته ليلى" وفيها 10 شخصيات وتجري أحداثها في بلاد بني عامر، 3-"قيس بن ذريح مع لبنى"، وفيها 12 شخصية وتجري وقائعها في جوار المدينة، 4-"جميل بثينة وكُثِّير عزَة" وفيها 13 شخصية...
واللافت أن كل هذه المسرحيات تقريباً تقوم على بطولة ثنائية بين الرجل والمرأة، ويكون الحب وما يستتبعه من صراع وتجاذب هو المحور الأساس، رغم وجود شخصيات تاريخية مشهورة عرفت عهودها الحرب والمنازعات، ورغم جريان الأحداث في بيئة عربية قبلية، إلا أن محور الصراع يبقى دائماً العاطفة؛ لذلك نجد أن أشهر العرب كانوا أبطالاً لمسرحيات الأحدب.
وقد استرسل المؤلف في تصوير مشاعر هؤلاء العشاق، وما عانوه من حرمان وتعقيدات فرضتها العادات القبلية والسلطة الأبوية بشكل عام، ويطي الكاتب الإنطباع الصريح بوقوفه إلى جانب المرأة وحقها في الحب وفي إختيار من تحت، كما يؤيد حقَّ الرجل في التعرّف إلى حبيبته عن كثب من خلال الإجتماع بها ومحادثتها وإعطائه الحجة لمقارعة ذويها وجهاً لوجه من أجل إظهار حقه هذا.
ولا يتوانى الكاتب عن تضمين حواره عبارات مشبوبة العاطفة نثراً وشعراً، ويطلق عنان قلمه لمفردات التغّزل والتشّبب التي لا تنقصها الجرأة، حتى لتكاد تظن أن الكاتب يحّرض الغرائز على الإستقامة، إلا أنه يحتفظ على الدوام بحدود الآداب واللياقة، وسيكون لنا شرح أوسع للغة الأحدث المسرحية ومضامينها في تعليقنا على المسرحيات الأربع المنشورة في هذا الكتاب.
ينشر هذا الكتاب أربع مسرحيات للشيخ إبراهيم الأحدب أشهرها مجنون بني عامر مع محبوبته ليلى، وهي مسرحيات وضعت في نصف القرن التاسع عشر وننشرها لأول مرة بعد تحقيقها ودرسها وتقديمها بشكل يساعد القارئ على التبحر في فكر الكاتب والتعمق في فن الأدب المسرحي لديه.
