الشيخ خليل اليازجي علم من أعلام عائلة اليازجي، التي اطلعت في بدايات عصر النهضة رواداً نوابغ أقلامهم في عتمات ذلك العصر، وكان لهم فضل على اللغة العربية لا يعادله إلا فضل عمالقتها الأولين الذين زامنوا اليازجي أمثال المعلم بطرس البستاني والشيخ فارس الشدياق وأقياسهم ممن امتلكوا ناصية اللغة وولدوا من أصولها وافتنوا في فروعها وألفوا في علومها، ما لم يزل يتردد صداه في نفوس الذين عاصروا ذلك الزمان. ودفعهم الوفاء إلى إبقاء ذكرهم مأثوراً ولوائهم منشوراً إلى اليوم.
والشيخ خليل اليازجي ناثر تأنق في ألفاظه ومعانيه، وشاعر نوع في أوزانه وقوافيه، فوفى نثره على الغاية، وجاء شعره بين الصفة والطبع، ولا غضاضة في ذلك، فإن طارقات الوحي لا تزور دائماً وفيها حظ الإلهام، غير أن مظالم تلك الأيام وآلامها كانت مذكيات للعزائم، هافزات على القول، فإذا بشعره صادر عن خلق، ومعبر عن حالة، ومشفوع بمعاناه.
وبين يدينا كتاب محقق ضم ديوان الشيخ خلي اليازجي الموسوم بكتاب "أوج النسيم"، كما وتضمن الكتاب شرحاً دونه المحقق على الديوان وحديث عن بيئة الشاعر وعصره وأسلوبه الشعري.
