ولا شك في أن اعتماد الكتاب على البحث الميداني الذي قام به المؤلف خلال فترات إقامته في إيران وزياراته لها على مدى العقد الأخير من القرن العشرين. وكذبك اعتماده على الرؤى التي تمخضت نتيجة عدد كبير من المقابلات والمناقشات مع النخبة السياسية والفكرية داخل النظام وخارجه، يضفيان أهمية خاصة على الكتاب، وليس من المبالغة القول إن هذا الكتاب يعد مرشداً أساسياً ومرجعاً مهماً لمن أراد أن يتعمق في فهم السياسة والسلطة داخل إيران اليوم.
