لم أعرف لماذا كانت قبيلتي تحتفي بكل هذه التقاليد؟ لماذا كان العرف يقهر الشرع، والعيب أقوى من الحرام، والخوف باباً مغلقاً على ضحاياه؟ الكتابة التي أهدتني أسئلتها الحيرة، وضعت في يدي معزلاً ينقض نسجه ويهتك الصمت، والعزلة، والنسب الواحد، والقوانين غير المعلنة. لم تكن كتابتي بمعزل عن هذين القطبين، الصحراء وعرفها، القبيلة وتابواتها، المجتمع الرعوي ومحرّماته، ولم يكن شغفي بهذا العالم الروائي وكتابته، سوى محاولة للفهم، محاولة لتفسير هذه العلاقة. كان المقدس يحتل هذا الجدل، ويتخذ من أشكاله المتعددة سياقاً للسؤال.
هذه الدراسة هي مجرّدة محاولة للإقتراب من الفهم، وأعترف أن كل النصوص التي أخترتها ودرستها كانت قريبة من روحي وعوالمي وهواجسي وأسئلتي.
