منذ أن استباحت وطنه ذئاب العوز. هو يذكر شراسة أنيابها وقد قذفت إليه بجواز السفر. طردته من بين صغاره بصمت همجي. عواؤها أصم أذنيه عن شقاوة الطلاب ومعاكساتهم. وفي حالة هذيان، حطم أقلامه بيديه، هشم السبورة، نثر الطباشير. عواء الجوع أسقطه عن منصة الصف. ثم ودع تحية العلم بتحية وداع لوجوه صغاره النيام. نسي الأسماء وهجرته الطرفة في غرفة المدرسين، استمر العواء، تصاعد أكثر، هاجم كتب الشكر، مزقها أودع شهاداته حقيبة سوداء ونسي أرقام قفلها، تاه في صحراء الرياض المقدسة حافياً على جمر ينفذ أوامر "الكفيل"، يغوص في وحل عبودية تنقصها الأغلال، يحرص كل الحرص ألا تفوح منه رائحة المعلم، يصر على ألا يظهر من أطراف أرديته ما يدل على أنه أكثر من بلاّط، يتقن مهنته، صامت، والوجه لا ينبئ بحياة.
