إن إتقان أية لغة من لغات العالم منوط-ولا شك-بإتقان جانبيها: القراءة والكتابة، وعنهما يصدر التحدث بها. وهذا بين يديك نصف اللغة العربية برمتها باسم "المعين في الإملاء" نقدمه موروثاً وحديثاً ومتطوراً في آن واحد. أما طريقتنا في عرض قواعد الإملاء في كتابنا هذا، فلم نتبعها إلا عن قناعة بأنها الطريقة المثلى في وضع اللغة العربية بين أيدي الدارسين موضعاً وسطاً بين الاقتضاب والتوسع، مع مراعاة الشمول في الوقت نفسه.
وقد قامت خطتنا في تعليم الإملاء ومرجعيتها في عند ثلاثة هي: أولاً: التعريف بعلم الإملاء وخطورته بين علوم اللغة العربية. ثانياً: الإلمام المفصل بقواعد الإملاء، نظرية وتطبيقاً، وتمرينات يتخللها نموذج قاعدي مع كل درس. ثالثاً: دعم القواعد المشروحة وتمريناتها بنصوص من الإملاء القاعدي المستهدف لترسيخ القواعد النظرية وتطبيقاتها، وقد أكثرنا من هذه النصوص لتلبي حاجة المعلم والمتعلم في الوقت نفسه.
ولا يخفي أن هذا المنهج منهج جديد ومبتكر، ومختلف عن المناهج الإملائية الأخرى، على الصعيد المدرسي وغيره.. فالكتاب خطة مقترحة على مدرسي اللغة العربية، بقدر ما هو منهج للدارسين في مرحلة الدراسة الإعدادية فما فوقها.
وكان اعتمادنا على جملة من الكتب المقررة مدرسياً قديمها وحديثها، بالإضافة إلى مؤلفاتنا في حقل الإملاء التي صدرت عن دور النشر في حلب. كل هذا مع جرأة في الاجتهاد العلمي، وحسمن المواقف فيما فيه خلاف، أو الإشارة إلى ما هو معلق بين الوجوه والاحتمالات.
وفي الكتاب متعة مستفيضة يقطفها قارئه من بساتين النصوص الأدبية التي بدت رغم قاعديتها كأنها عفوية الاختيار، وهذا ما كلفنا جهداً كبيراً في اختيارها وإعداده والتصرف فيها بما يلزم القاعدة.
