وفي السيرة الروائية تضيء الكاتبة على حياة أم البنين فاطمة بنت حزام الكلابية، في طفولتها ونشأتها وكمولتها، وفي طريقها تعرج على تاريخ أهل بيت النبوة، لتقتطف منه ما يواكب مسيرة حياتها، فترصد لنا تلك المسيرة الخالدة، في ضوء ما جرى من أحداث، بدءاً بتاريخ ولادتها الميمونة، وما اكتنفها من ظروف وحتى إقترانها بسيد الوصيين، ومعايشتها أهل بيت العصمة، وتألقها في جنتهم الزاهرة، فكان أن أنجبت "أبا الفضل العباس"، ثم أنجبت بعده "عبد الله وعثمان وجعفر"، وقدمتهم جميعاً على مذبح الغداء، قرباناً لإبن الزهراء.
قدمت الكاتبة لعملها بمقدمة ومما جاء فيها "... وتشرق أم البنين بأبنائها، أبناء أمير المؤمنين، لتثبت للكون والعالم والناس أجمعين، أن الأم شمس تمدّ أبناءها بالنور والدفء، كما تمدهم بالحياة، وأنها، لم تنجب لسيد الوصيين أبناء فحسب، فأبناؤها لم يكونوا أبناءه الوحيدين من غير الزهراء، وهو من هو في تربية الأبناء بل تربية الناس أجمعين، ولكن أبناء فاطمة بنت حزام، أم البنين، لم يكونوا كسواهم، لأن المجد والسؤدد اجتمع لهم بأبيهم خير الآباء، وأمهم التي نذرت نفسها حقاً وصدقاً خادمة لسيدة النساء، فاستمدت من قدوتها ما استطاعت به أن تكون مربية من أصلح مربيات التاريخ، إن لن تكن أصلحهن على الإطلاق، خلا سيدة النساء طبعاً".
علم العباس أن أمه استبقته لأمر عظيم، فاستمر واقفاً إزاءها بخشوع ووجوم ينتظر ما تروم. ولعلها إذا رأته كذلك طارت نفسها شعاعاً إليه، كما طار نحوها، فانكب على قدميها يقبلهما ويبكي، وأكبت عليه،... تساقطت على الأرض ترفعه وتضمه، وتمسك بيديه،... ترى، هل إستطاعت أم البنين أن لا تبكي عند تلك اللحظة،وهي تعلم أنها لو بكت، فلن تضعف عزم هذا الأسد الهصور، بل لعلها تزيده قوة وعنفوانا؟!
