حيث يتألف من قسمين أحدهما تحدث عما يرد على الإنسان من دواعي الشهوات كنحو ما تميل إليه النفس من هذه الأشياء التي تخلبها وتقهرها، ويتهالك الناس في طلبها من شهوات الأنفس، وهي أمور مسترذلة مستقبحة، تشرف أنفس ذوي المروءات عنها، حفظاً لأديانهم، وتنزيهاً لمروءاتهم، وصيانة لأعراضهم، ومراعاة لعقولهم، فالعقلاء يثبتون عند خلابة الأهواء، ومنازعة الأنفس، رصانة وتوقراً ونظراً في العواقب، وأرباب العقول السخيفة والأنفس الضعيفة تقهرهم أنفسهم، ويعجزون عن ضبطها، فتلقيهم أهواؤهم في القبائح والفضائح، ولعمى قلوبهم واستغراقهم في سكر الهوى لا يحسون بقبح ما يأتونه.
أما القسم الثاني فتحدث عن الهوى وهو ما يتعري الإنسان من الهوى عند الغضب، فإن تلك الحالة نوع من الهوى أيضاً، وهذا الهوى، ربما كان أشد من الهوى الذي يعتري الإنسان عند دواعي الشهوات، لأن هذا الهوى الذي يرد على النفس عند الغضب هوى قاهر صعب المداراة، لا يثبت له إلا الأبطال أصحاب العقول السليمة.
