إن الإهتمام بسنة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من أوجب الواجبات، إذ هي المصدر الثاني من مصادر التشريع، وخدمة كتب السنّة من هذا القبيل، ومن تلكم الكتب كتاب [التقاسيم والأنواع] الذي صنفه الإمام أبو حاتم محمد بن حبان البستي المتوفى سنة 354هـ، والذي يعتبر من الكتب التي التزم أصحابها بالصحة، ولكن العلماء انتقدوا عليه تساهله في التصحيح، إلا أن هذا الكتاب لم يدرس الدراسة التفصيلية التي تميز الصحيح الذي تتوافر فيه شرائط الصحة من غيره، ولعل أول محاولة لتقديم دراسة أولية هي محاولة الهيثمي حيث أفرد زوائد ابن حبان على [الصحيحين] في كتاب مستقل وصنفه، هذا مشعراً بأن ما ليس في زوائده هو صحيح متفق مع البخاري ومسلم، وأما ما تضمنه كتاب [الزوائد] فليس محكوماً عليه بالصحة ولا بغيرها فيما عدا أحاديث متفرقة نقدها العلماء كابن حجر وتكلموا في تصحيحها وتضعيفها.
ولما رأيت كتاب الهيثمي [موارد الظمآن إلى زوائد ابن حبان]، يشكل مرحلة اولية في الدراسة أحببت متابعة ما بدأ وإستكمال ما شرع فيه.
