هذه الدراسة تعد أول إنتاج لمعهد دراسات الأمن القومي الإسرائيلي، في إطار مشروع شامل لدراسة التهديد الإيراني النووي- تسعى لأن تتناول انعكاسات السيناريو الذي سيكون خلاله في حوزة إيران سلاح نووي، برغم الضغوط الهادفة إلى منع ذلك، والأعمال التي تستطيع إسرائيل القيام بها، من أجل التغلب على وضع كهذا. وتشتمل هذه الدراسة على ثلاثة مباحث أساسية: المبحث الأول يحاول أن يجيب على السؤال الآتي: هل يمكن منع إيران من الحصول على السلاح النووي، بالطرائق السياسية أو بالطرائق العسكرية؟ ويناقش المبحث الثاني انعكاسات امتلاك إيران سلاحاً نووياً على إسرائيل، وعلى دول أخرى، ويحاول أن يستقرئ السياسات النووية المستقبلية الإيرانية. أما المبحث الثالث فيدرس طرائق العمل التي ستتبعها إسرائيل ودول أخرى، لمواجهة إيران النووية، وتنقسم هذه الطرائق إلى منحيين: الأول، الطرائق التي يتم عبرها إعادة العجلة إلى الوراء، أما المنحى الثاني فالطرائق التي تهدف إلى تفكيك القدرة النووية الإيرانية بعد الحصول عليها، والخطوات اللازمة، من أجل تقليل أخطار امتلاك إيران القدرة النووية، غذا لم يكن ممكناً منعها.
وهذه الدراسة في الأصل معنية بالوضع المستقبلي، ولكن الافتراضات التي تشكل أساس تحليل هذا الوضع، السيناريوهات المحتملة، تعتمد على معطيات معروفة اليوم، وبطبيعة الحال، فإن تلك المعطيات قد تغير في المستقبل، أو أنها سوف تبدو متغيرة كلما أضيف إليها معلومات جديدة، وخصوصاً أن الموضوع النووي الإيراني يتطور بسرعة، وبسبب ذلك سيكون من الضروري إعادة دراسة استنتاجات هذا العمل، كلما اتضحت معطيات أو تغيرت.
