تجاوبت البحوث التربوية والنفسية مع التطور المتسارع في شتى مجالات الحياة الذي يميز عالم اليوم منذ منتصف القرن العشرين على الأقل، فبدأت تنظر إلى المتعلم على أنه محور العملية التعليمية بدلاً من المادة الدراسية، فأصبح إهتمامها منصباً على إحتياجاته النمائية من جهة، وعلى إمكاناته التي تحقق تلك الإحتياجات من جهة أخرى.
ومن هنا، ظهرت مصطلحات جديدة في الميدان التربوي، وحلت أخرى محل القديمة، وتطورت مفاهيم تربوية ونفسية وتغيرت، فتحول الإهتمام من السعي إلى توفير مكان لكل متعلم في المدرسة إلى السعي إلى تحقيق كل متعلم الأهداف التعليمية بالسرعة التي تناسبه وفي المدة التي تكفيه، وتراجع مفهوم إكساب المتعلم المعلومات أمام مفهوم إكتساب المتعلم مهارات البحث عن المعلومة وتوظيفها وإنتاجها.
كما أنه لا ننسى دور الخلية الأولى في جسم المجتمع، وهي النقطة التي يبدأ منها التطور، وهي الأسرة تلك المؤسسة الإجتماعية التي تنبعث من ظروف الحياة والطبيعة التلقائية للنظم والأوضاع الإجتماعية... فأصبحت الأسرة ضرورة حتمية بفرضها الواقع والطبيعة البشرية، وأنها عماد المجتمع واحد مرتكزاته الأساسية في خلق جيل صالح لأسرته ومجتمعه ووطنه، وأخيراً الأعلام التربوي ودوره في نشر الوعي التعليمي وبث روح التعليم.
ومن هذا المنطلق جاء هذا الكتاب أساليب حديثة في تربية الأطفال الذي يتضمن خطة تربوية شاملة قوامها "الثواب بدلاً من العقاب" تتضمن المفاهيم التالية: "الثواب مبدأ إسلامي وركيزة مهمة لتعزيز قدرات الطفل"، "اللاعنف وبدائل العقاب"، "تجربة الأردن: معاً نحو بيئة مدرسية آمنة"، "المشاكل الطلابية: أنواعها - أسبابها - طرق علاجها"، "حقوق الطفل وسيكولوجية الطفل والحاجات المرتبطة بمراحل نموه"، "المؤسسات التربوية ودورها في حماية الطفل، وتنمية شخصيته ومواهبه وقدراته"، وتتضمن ما يلي: 1-الأسرة، 2-دور الحضانة، 3-رياض الأطفال، 4-وزارة التربية والتعليم - المدارس الحكومية والخاصة، 5-وسائل الإعلام، 6-مؤسسات أخرى: كالمسجد، والمراكز الثقافية والرياضية.
