هذا الكتاب هو في الأساس ملف نشرته مجلة "آفاق" (يصدرها اتحاد كتاب المغرب) من منهج البنيوية التكوينية التي أسسها لوسيان غولدمان. إعادة نشر الملف في كتاب يسد فراغاً في المكتبة النقدية العربية الحديثة، ويقدم المنهج البنيوي التكويني بشكل شبه متكامل.
يتميز مشروع غولجمان بكونه اتخذ العمل الأدبي مجالاً أساسياً لبلورة منهج ينطلق من العمل ذاته ومستعملاً منهجية سوسيولوجية وفلسفية لإضاءة البنيات الدالة وتحديد مستويات إنتاج المعنى عبر أنماط من الرؤية للعالم. لقد كان غولدمان يعتبر هذه القراءة للأعمال الأدبية والفكرية أساسية وسابقة على القرارات الأخرى، إلا أن ما أنجزه من تحليلات وتطبيقات، على أهميته، لا يزكي المشروع في طموحاته البعيدة، وإنما يجعله مشروعاً مفتوحاً قابلاً للنقد والإضافات. وهذا الجانب هو ما حاول بعض الباحثين أن يعمقوه ضمن المنهج الغولدماني.
