ما يزال علم تراجم الرجال مستحوذاً على إهتمام علماء المسلمين ورعايتهم حتّى وقتنا الحاضر، وما انفكّوا يتعاطونه بصورة ملحوظة في حقول علمي الحديث والفقه، وأحياناً في مجال التفسير، وذلك لأمرين: الأول: لدوره في العملية الإجتهادية، وما يقدّمه هذا العلم من عون للفقيه والمحدّث، والثاني: أثره في تحديد المستوى العلمي والثقافي لكلّ طبقة، وتشخيص العوامل التي ساعدت على إرتفاعه في طبقة وإنخفاضه في أخرى، وما انعكس منها على الواقع التقريبي، فظهر من تمتّع بالحس التقريبي ومن تمتّع بخلاف ذلك؛ وهو ما يفسّر لنا إعتماد أصحاب الصحاح والسنن على طائفة غير قليلة من رجال الشيعة، وإكتفاء الإمامية بصدق الراوي ولو كان غير إمامي، بل وإعتبار خبره حجّة إذا وثِّق.
وهذا الكتاب يبرز شيئاً جديداً في هذا الميدان، حيث يتناول أسماء أعلام من الرواة الذين نالوا الحظوة من التقدير والمديح والثناء من قبل رجاليّي الشيعة وأهل السنّة معاً، فضلاً عن إعتماده منهج المقارنة بين نجوم تلألأت في سماء المدرستين: الشيعة والسنّية، فيكشف عن عمق العلاقات المشتركة بينهما على هذا الصعيد.
