كثيرة هي الكتب والمتون التي ألفت بفضائل الإمام علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه، وبمناقبه وقد أجمع المسلمون جميعاً على صحة الأخبار التي رويت عنه. وما عرف عن سبقه في الإسلام وسعة علمه وفضله أمر لا ينكره أحد من المسلمين.
وفي هذا الكتاب يقدم المؤلف ما ورد في حق الإمام علي على لسان خاتم النبيين صلى الله عليه وسلم، ويورد الأحاديث بأسانيدها ومصادرها فيذكر قصة ولادته رضي الله عنه، وتأييد الله سبحانه وتعالى لرسوله بعلي وافتخار النبي به، كما يذكر حديث (أن علياً يقاتل على تأويل القرآن) واستدلال بإمامته من هذا الحديث.
ويذكر المؤلف كذلك حديث المؤاخاة إذ آخى الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم يوم المؤاخاة بين المهاجرين والأنصار وعلي عليه السلام واقفاً يراه ويعلم مكانه، لم يواخ بينه وبين أحد فانصرف علي باكي العين، قال يا بلال: اذهب فأتني به، فمضى بلال وأتى علياً وقد دخل منزله... فطرق بلال الباب وقال يا علي: أجب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فأتى علي رضي الله عنه إلى النبي، صلى الله عليه وسل، فقال علي: آخيت بين المهاجرين والأنصار وأنا واقف تعرف مكاني لم تؤاخ بيني وبين أحد، فقال: يا علي إنما أخرتك لنفسي كما أمرني ربي.
