في هذا الكتاب يطلق الرفيق محسن إبراهيم صيحة مدوية لإستنهاض تيار الحركة الوطنية اللبنانية، يعيدنا بعيداً عن أي إختزال شكلي أو تنظيمي إلى أصالة هذا التيار، إلى إلتصاقه الحميم بهموم الشعب والوطن، بتحركات العمال والفلاحين والطلاب والمعلمين والمثقفين.
يجدد تعريفه للحركة الوطنية بصفتها حركة نابعة من الحركة الشعبية متواصلة معها، لا تختزل بأحزابها أو صيغتها الجبهوية أو نص برنامجها السياسي؛ وإنما تؤسس أو يعاد تأسيسها بالإستناد إلى قوى شعبية تبنى على الأرض ونهج وطني توحيدي ديمقراطي يجري إرساؤه في الممارسة السياسية والنضالية قبل أن تكون صيغة ونصاً وأنظمة علاقات جبهوية.
وليست هذه الصيحة، في مثل هذا الوقت، مجرد صيحة إنقاذ تيار محدد أجبرته تطورات العامين الماضيين على الإنكفاء بمقدار ما هي صيحة إنقاذ وطني حقيقي وشامل.
ذلك إن إستنهاض تيار الحركة الوطنية هو الآن أكثر من أي وقت مضى حاجة وطنية ملحة بقدر ما هي ملحة قضية التحرير والتوحيد والديمقراطية.
