وبالرغم من تعدد المعاجم الصوفية المتداولة إلا أنها غير مكتملة وأغلبها مأخوذ من مصطلحات الشيخ الأكبر محي الدين بن عربي في رسالة (اصطلاح الصوفية) هذا من جهة ومن جهة ثانية بأنها محددة بمصطلحات شخصية صوفية متأخرة قياساً بتراثنا الصوفي العربي.
ولهذا كان لابد من جمع كل النصوص المتعلقة بالمصطلح الصوفي ووضع مضامينها بأيدي الباحثين والدارسين وتوثيقه.
