رغم ما نشر، وما ينشر عن مؤلفات وموسوعات بمختلف اللغات عن الجاسوسيّة، وما تكتبه الصحف من ريبورتاجات وأخبار حول نشاط الجواسيس وأخبار حول نشاط الجواسيس في مختلف أصقاع العالم إلى جانب العديد من الأفلام السينمائية التي تدور عقدة مواضيعها حول نشاط وفعالية جاسوس ما، فكل ذلك لن يحدد معالم الصورة الواقعية الحقيقية للجاسوسية، ومعظم ما كتب عنها إنما هو قبس من خيال كاتب تصوّر أبعاد الجاسوسيّة من الزاوية التي اعتقد أنها أوصلته إلى بغيته، فحوّلها إلى ريبورتاج صحفي أو إلى مواضيع ضمها كتاب قد يتحوّل إلى موضوع فيلم سينمائي.
فــ"الجاسوسية" بحدّ ذاتها والنشاط الجاسوسي وإنما هما "شيء" سرّي... وسرّي للغاية، يحيطه الكتمان ويغلفه الصمت المطبق، فكل ما يكتنفه من أجواء يعتقد أنها عين الغموض فما هي إلاّ محاولة تحويه لإخفاء حقيقة الجاسوسيّة ونشاط العاملين فيها.
ومن هذا المنطلق، بحث المؤلف في كتابه هذا قدر الإمكان وإستناداً إلى مراجع عربية وأجنبية موثوقة لا يتطرق الشك إلى صحة ما جاء فيها - معالم الجاسوسيّة، وبإسلوب مبسط كي يصبح القارئ العربي على إطلاع شبه كامل عن ذلك السلاح الذي أطلق عليه ما سمي بــ"السلاح الرابع" أي سلاح الجاسوسيّة.
كل ذلك قبل الخوض بموضوع الجاسوسيّة الإسرائيليّة التي هي منظمة تجسسيّة كبقية المنظمات المشابهة في دول العالم كبيرها وصغيرها.
