في كتابه " التقنية عند مفكري الإسلام " ينطلق الدكتور كاظم حسن جاسم الفتلاوي من كون مبدأ ( التقية ) لازمة من لوازم الفكر ، وحاجة من الحاجات التي تعد إحدى ركائز الوجود البشري ، فهي حالة طبيعية فطرية يلمسها الإنسان في حياته ، ويستعين بها لدرء ما يهدد حياته بالخطر . أما الدافع لاختيار هذا الموضوع للكتابة بالنسبة للمؤلف " هو الوفاء للإسلام من خلال كشف جملة من الحقائق أهمها - التقية - التي طالما وقع الشيعة تحت طائلة الإتهام وما زالوا باستخدامهم إياها بقدر ما كانت وسيلة للخلاص من حبائل الأخطار المحدقة " . من هنا تبرز الحاجة لكتاب يتناول مختلف جوانب هذا المبدأ دفاعاً عن بعض الشبهات التي أُثيرت حولها من قِبل بعض المثقفين . لذلك سعى المؤلف لتقديم كتاباً جامعاً يتضمن الجانب الفقهي والكلامي والأصولي بثوب أكاديمي منهجي ، حيث جاءت مادة الكتاب مستقرئاً لآراء المتكلمين والمفسرين والأصوليين والفقهاء لذلك يمكن اعتباره جامعاً لمختلف الآراء والأقوال أي ( التقية بين الإثبات والنفي ) ولهذا الغرض اختار المؤلف أدلّة الإثبات بالرجوع إلى القرآن الكريم واختيار ست آيات حملها المفسرون على إثبات التقية ، كما رجع إلى السّنة الشريفة باختيار أربع شواهد إثباتية ، وانتهى إلى إثبات التقية بدليل العقل من جانبين هما : دفع الضرر وجلب المنفعة .
