هذا الكتاب حصيلة تدريس مواد تتعلق بالموضوع لأكثر من خمسة عشر عاماً، وثمرة الاطلاع على عدد ليس بقليل من المصادر والمراجع الحديثة في مجال القياس والتقويم والتقييم. حيث يتطرق الكاتب في الفصل الأول لمفهوم القياس ومبادئه بين العلوم السلوكية. ويقدم في الفصل الثاني عرضاً لآلية بناء وتطوير أدوات القياس عموماً والاختبارات بوجه خاص، أما الفصل الثالث فقد استعرض علاقة إعطاء الدرجات والتقييم المستمر، ويبيّن طرق تصحيح وتقدير الدرجات للطلبة المفحوصين. وتعلق الفصل الرابع بتحليل أداء الأفراد على أداة القياس ككل وعلى الفقرات المكونة لها بشكل مفصل.
وتحدث المؤلف عن الخصائص السيكومترية للاختبار خلال معالجة الفصلين الخامس والسادس لموضوعي الثبات والصدق، وفسر مستوى أداء الفرد معيارياً ومحكياً عبر الفصل السابع الذي جاء بعنوان المعايير والدرجات المعيارية. واختتم الكتاب بالفصل الثامن الذي يستعرض بشمولية واسعة أدوات القياس في المجالات الإنسانية الثلاث المعرفية والوجدانية والمهارية.
