أسقِط في يدي وصار جسدي يرتعش من شدة وقع هذه المفاجأة، حتى كأني رجلٌ مقرورٌ تحت وابلٍ من المطرِ في سَورة الشتاء، وازدردتُ ريقي بصعوبة، ثم تهالكتُ وجلستُ على الأريكة، نظرتُ إلى الباب، وأردت الهرب، لكن قدميّ تخشّبَتا ولم تحملاني، وتذكرتُ عثمان، وأطواره الغريبة، وعزلته، وفقره المدقع، ثم تذكرتُ القنينة والسائل اللزج الغريب بداخلها، ثم قرصتُ نفسي، وعركتُ عيني؛ لأتوثق من أني متيقظٌ لا نائم! ففتحتُ عيني، ورأيت الرسالة منشورةً على الأرض، والكتابة الغليظة عليها، والحديث الغريب مكتوبًا فيها، والزجاج المهشّم يملأ جنبات الغرفة؛ فأنا إذن لا أحلم ولا أتخيّل، ولستُ في قصةٍ من قصص ألف ليلةٍ وليلة.
