ولد في مدينة المنصورة، وتعلم في مدارسها، وتخرج من كلية الطب بجامعتها، وحصل على درجة الاختصاص العالي في طب النفس والأعصاب من معهد الدراسات العليا للأطباء بمدينة كييف (عاصمة أوكرانيا)، كما حصل على اختصاص إضافي في الطب البديل من المعهد ذاته.
مارس الطب النفسي في مصر وعمل أخصائيا إكلينيكيا بمستشفى بافلوف.
هجر الطب والتحق بأسرة تحرير مجلة العربي في العام 1992م، ثم عاد إلى مصر، وعاش فترة في سوريا هو الآن مستشار تحرير مجلة العربي من القاهرة.
له سبعة كتب قصصية، وكتاب علمي عن الطب البديل، وكتاب إلكتروني في أدب الرحلات، وكتابان قصصيان في الثقافة البيئية للأطفال.
قال عنه نجيب محفوظ: إنه موهبة فذة في عالم القصة القصيرة وقال يوسف إدريس: يمكننا أن نكوّن من قصصه باقة من أجمل القصص العالمية.
