رغم ما شهد تاريخ الإمام الحسين من غموض تاريخي، إلا أنه لم يكن بدعاً جديداً في الزمن من بعض نواحيه، ولكنه كان من أهم المعضلات التي واجهت الأمة الإسلامية، ولم ينبر لها المتخصصون بالدرس والتمحيص من كل الجوانب، وهذا البحث ليس سوى محاولة في هذا الطريق لإلقاء الضوء على أهمية هذا التاريخ، وما ينطوي عليه من فائدة للأمة. إن في حياة وتاريخ الإمام الحسن مجالاً خصباً لهذه الأبحاث، وقد تكون الموضوعية أهم مرشد في تلمس خفايا تلك المرحلة، التي لا تزال تلقي بظلالها على ما حولها من قضايا متشابكة، ومن إسقاطات متفرعة عن ذلك الواقع السياسي الذي امتد إلى ما قبله. لذلك فإن المحاولة التي بين أيدينا، تبتغي سبيل العلمية في التناول لتنقل صورة الواقع قدر المستطاع، وتبني له تصوراً قد يتعارض مع الفهم السائد ولكن ضمن إطار البرهان والحجة.
وقد انطلق الموسوي في كتابه هذا من مستوى الإسلام دين الفطرة، فالتزم النقاش الموضوعي، وجانب المعالجة المذهبية والفئوية. لذا استنطق النصوص، والمتون التاريخية، واعتمد المنهج الوصفي المقارن في تتبع الحق الذي يراعي المبدأ لا المصلحة، من هنا وسم عمله باسم الالتزام السياسي في نهج الإمام الحسن.
