ردد قائلاً: "مآل كلّ سعادةٍ الزوال"، "الباقي هو الله".
ثم وقف يصلي، وربما كانت هذه هي الصلاة الأخيرة التي يُصليها في أصفهان، وفي آخر دعائه حرّك شفتيه قائلاً: "الأوهامُ تُولِد الكّدر"، على الإنسان أن يعلم أنه إنّما عليه العمل والخدمة حتى آخر رَمق وآخر نفس في حياتِهِ".
تقدّم خطوات بأقدامه الضعيفة إلى الدُّرج المنقُوش الموجود في الزاوية الأخرى من الغرفة الكبيرة وَفَتَحهُ، رَزَم الأوراق المتداخلة ببعضها البعض وأخرجها، أخذ دواتَهُ وريشتهُ، ثَنى رُكبَتَيه وجلس.
كان هذا هو كتابه الذي قدّم له سنوات من عمره، وربما أعطى عمره كله فداء لهذا الكتاب، لم يبق إلا عدة صفحات لإنهائه، لقد آخّر هذه الصفحات الأربع حتى هذا اليوم، فكلما كان يفتح خزانته لتناول الأوراق وأخذها بيديه كان هناك صوت يهمس في أذنيه: "أتركها؛ تكتبها فيما بعد فلم يَحِن وقتها بعد".
أما في هذه الليلة فليس هناك ذلك الصوت الذي كان يهمس أياماً طويلة، إذن انتهى هذا الشيء، عندما تنتهي كتابة هذا الكتاب الذي يشبه حياته، سينتهي كل شيء، وربما حياته أيضاً، فهو يشعر بذلك.
