وتتوالى الألغاز والمفاجآت... وفي أثناء سرد الأحداث يصوِّر الرّاوي بقلم رشيق وتعابير جذّابة أوضاع البلاد والعباد في ظلِّ الحصار والحاجة وفقدان كثير من الأُسَر معيليها، إذ تختلف مواجهة الصعوبات بين البشر، وتختلف أخلاقيات الناس وسلوكياتهم، وبخاصة في تحصيل سُبل العيش...
إنَّ من يبدأ بقراءة هذه الرواية لا يستطيع تركها قبل الوصول إلى نهايتها التي ستشكِّل له مفاجأة لم يكن يتصوَّرها، ويدرك في النهاية أنَّ الحروب لا تُخلِّف إلا الدِّمار والويلات، ومع ذلك لا تستطيع القضاء على العواطف الإنسانية ينُبْلها او غرائزيَّتها لدى البشر.
