إن الفقه الإسلامي بفروعه المتعددة، وبأقسامه المنوعة، وبمصادره الثابتة، كان ولا زال مواكباً لحياة الأمة الإسلامية يرفدها بمعطياته ويزودها بتوجيهاته في جميع شؤون الحياة الاجتماعية والشخصية والاقتصادية. وهذا الكتاب "الاختيار لتعليل المختار" هو مرجع من مراجع الفقه الإسلامي لدى الفقهاء والعلماء في مذهب الإمام الأعظم أبي حنيفة النعمان رضوان الله عليه، وقد ألفه مصنفه في شبابه مختصرا في الفقه الحنفي سماه"المختار للفتوى" ثم بعد أن تداوله العلماء طلبوا منه أن يشرحه شرحا يشير فيه إلى علل مسائله ومعانيه ويذكر فروعا يحتاج إليها، وأن ينقل ما بين أصحاب المذهب من خلاف ويعلله أيضا فوضع هذا الشرح الذي أسماه الاختيار لتعليل المختار، وقد بدأ بكتاب الطهارة وانتهى بكتاب المواريث وبالنظر لأهميته فقد اعتنى الشيخ محمد عدنان درويش يتحقيقه حيث اهتم:
أولاً: ضبط النص على النسخ المطبوعة منها، وأصحها التي ضبطها محيي الدين عبد الحميد، وقد طبعت بمصر.
ثانياً: خرج جميع الأحاديث والآثار التي وقعت في ثنايا الكتاب. وقد اعتمد في تخريجها على العلامة الإمام قاسم بن قطلوبغا الذي خرج أحاديثها في كتابه العظيم "التعريف والإخبار".
ثالثاً: علق على بعض المسائل الغامضة، وبيان معاني بعض الكلمات الغريبة مع عنونة الفصول والأبواب.
رابعاً: ترجم الأعلام الواردة في ثنايا الكتاب.
خامساً: ترجم مؤلف الكتاب ترجمة مختصرة جامعة مع ذكر أسماء بعض الأئمة الذين يكثر ذكرهم في كتب الفقه مع بيان أهمية الكتاب.
