إن البحث والتنقيب في أحوال الرواة بمختلف المدارس قد استمر من عهد الغيبة الصغرى وإلى زمننا هذا، فذهب كل واحد منهم مذهباً في الجرح والتعديل وأسس كل منهم مدرسة في علم الرجال. فترى أن الإختلافات العريقة في الإعتماد على راوٍ أو عدم الإعتماد عليه، لا تقل عن الإختلافات الموجودة حالياً في المسائل النظرية كالفقه وبعض مسائل العقائد.
فهل كان علمائنا على وفاق في آرائهم الرجالية ومبانيهم في الجرح والتعديل .. ولو ضننا وجود توافق بينهم فلماذا وقعنا في تعارض أقوالهم بين الشد والجذب ..!!
هل توجد ضابطة معينة أو مخصصة أو قاعد يمكن الإعتماد والإستناد عليها في دائرة علم الرجال ليطبق عليها الجرح والتعديل ..!! أم أن علمائنا كان لكل واحد منهم أصولاً وأسس ومعايير خاصة عليها يطبقون ويوزنون الرواة من حيث القوة والضعف.
هل النزاعات الكلامية والمعرفية والفقهية والإجتهاد الشخصي والحدس لها دخل في معرفة الراوي عندهم؟
هل توهم المتأخرون من الرجاليين بأن آراء المتقدمين حول الرواة ما هي إلا أخبار وشهادات عن حس واصلة إليهم بالتواتر والإستفاضة ممن عاشرهم وعاصرهم. أو إنهم من أهل الخبرة فتكون حجة في الإعتماد عليهم؟.
هل أصبح علماء الرجال المتقدمين هم من لهم الوصايا والقيمومة على المذهب وتراث أهل البيت. فلا يمكن الأخذ برواية أو الإعتماد عليها إلا بعد أن تسلم من طعن أصحاب الأصول الرجالية؟!
هل علم الرجال بما هو علم يمكن الإعتماد عليه في تنقيح الأخيار؟ وما هو الأثر المترتب عليه فهل حافظ على أخبار أهل البيت: أم قام بتمزيقها؟. وهل هناك مقاييس خاصة واردة عن أهل البيت لمعرفة الحديث أم لا ؟!
كل هذه الأسئلة وغيرها تجدها في هذا الكتاب ببحث موضوعي ودراسة علمية عن الأصول والمباني والقواعد وكيفية نشوئها، واصوله وقواعده، وعلى ماذا اعتمد علماء الرجال في تأسيس هذا العلم.
